5th Annual Jake's Reindeer Race - Sunday, December 6th, 2009
Jake's Reindeer Race thanks the following generous sponsors of the 2009 Event:
The Maynard Childhood Cancer Foundation and Jake's Reindeer Race committee members hereby extend tremendous thanks to all of the 2009 race participants, donors and volunteers! This was our 5th event, and given the current economic climate, we were unsure what the turnout would be. To our great delight, about 500 people came to the race on December 6th at Innsbrook Corporate Park. Total donations, entry fees, and sponsor contributions combined to help us raise $70,000 this year! Unbelievable! The kindness and compassion that is consistently displayed is a truly remarkable thing! By working together, one community at a time, we can make a difference in the lives of kids with cancer!
Now where does that money go? This year, we are helping fund pediatric cancer research at VCU Children's Medical Center (a neuroblastoma study), Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (a sarcoma study), and H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center (also a sarcoma study). In addition, we have purchased enough books for every new family this year to receive, free of charge, a voluminous and useful pediatric cancer resource guide at VCU Children's Medical Cancer, along with providing the hospital with hundreds of age-appropriate coping books for the children with cancer. These books help with pain management, amputations, chemotherapy and more.
